Montclair Seahawks

By registering my child(ren) for the Montclair Seahawks swim team, I understand and agree to the following volunteer requirements for the swim season:

Volunteer Requirements

As a parent/guardian of a swimmer on the Montclair Seahawks, I acknowledge that the success of our swim meets depends on active parent participation. Families must choose one of the following options:

1. Volunteer Option
   I agree to volunteer for a minimum of five (5) duties throughout the swim season. Duties will be signed up for on a weekly basis, and I understand it is my responsibility to ensure that these duties are completed.
2. Waiver Option
   I choose to opt out of volunteering and will pay a $200 waiver fee to cover the cost of not participating in volunteer duties. This fee will be assessed at the time of registration and is non-refundable.
3. Exempt Roles Option
   I acknowledge that certain roles (e.g., coach, board member, official) exempt me from volunteering. If I take on one of these roles, I will not be required to complete the volunteer duties, but I must fulfill the responsibilities associated with the exempt role.

Missed Duty Fees

If I have selected Option #1 (Volunteer) and do not complete the required five (5) duties, I understand that I will be charged a $50 fee for each missed duty. This fee will be invoiced and is due upon receipt.

Acknowledgement

By signing below, I confirm that I understand the volunteer requirements for the Montclair Seahawks and agree to fulfill the duties as outlined in this agreement. I also understand that failure to meet the volunteer obligations will result in additional fees as described.

I certify that I am the parent or legal guardian of the child(ren) named in this registration. I understand that participation in the Montclair Seahawks swim program may involve risks of injury, illness, or medical emergencies. 

Medical Authorization

I hereby authorize any Montclair Seahawks coach, supervisor, or team administrator to obtain and provide medical care for my child(ren) in the event of an accident, injury, or illness occurring during participation in any Montclair Seahawks activity, including practices, swim meets, and team events. I understand that reasonable efforts will be made to contact me before administering medical treatment unless immediate care is necessary.

Financial Responsibility

I acknowledge that I am responsible for all costs associated with any medical care or treatment my child(ren) may require due to participation in Montclair Seahawks activities.

Waiver and Release of Liability 

I hereby waive, release, and discharge the Montclair Seahawks, its directors, officers, coaches, team administrators, volunteers, and agents from any and all claims, demands, or liabilities related to injury, illness, or medical treatment that may arise from my child(ren)’s participation, whether such claims result from negligence or otherwise.

Certification of Fitness 

I certify that my child(ren) is/are physically fit and capable of participating in all Montclair Seahawks activities.

By registering my child(ren) with the Montclair Seahawks, I acknowledge and agree to the following: 

Assumption of Risk 

I understand that participation in the Montclair Seahawks swim program, including but not limited to training sessions, swim meets, and team-related activities, carries inherent risks of personal injury, illness, or property damage. I voluntarily assume all risks associated with my child(ren)’s participation. 

Release of Liability 

I, on behalf of myself, my child(ren), and my family members, hereby waive, release, and discharge the Montclair Seahawks, its directors, officers, agents, coaches, volunteers, and employees from any and all claims, liabilities, or causes of action arising from or related to any injury, illness, or property damage that may occur during my child(ren)’s participation in the Montclair Seahawks program, including travel to and from team activities. 

Indemnification 

I agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Montclair Seahawks, its directors, officers, agents, coaches, volunteers, and employees from any claims, damages, or expenses (including attorney fees) arising from my child(ren)’s participation in the program.

Developmental Team Eligibility & Evaluation Process

The Developmental Team is designed for swimmers ages 5 and up who are coachable, comfortable, and independent in the water for 20–30 minutes but are not yet able to swim the required 25 meters to join the competitive team.

Placement in the developmental program is at the coaches' discretion. Generally, coaches look for swimmers who:

• Can jump into the pool without hesitation when asked.
• Can make steady progress in the water for about 10–15 meters (half the pool) while kicking and using their arms.

While the minimum age is 5, readiness varies. Some swimmers are ready at 5, while others may need to be 7 or 8 before they are comfortable and independent for the duration of practice. Safety is our top priority.

Evaluation Process

All swimmers must be evaluated for the developmental team. To participate:

1.Register your swimmer and attend evaluation night.

2.Coaches will assess their readiness and assign them to the appropriate group.

3.Coaches have the final say in placement decisions.

If you're unsure, we encourage you to register and select "pay by check" at checkout. Bring your swimmer to evaluation night on May 27, where coaches will provide direct feedback.  Swimmers may show as part of the "8 & Under" group in the next 'Athletes Group' section, but again, Coach will make the final determination.
